Wedding photography does not consist of just taking photographs of the gorgeous dress, the flowers, or the venue. It is more than just posing the couple in front of the ceremony door and saying “Smile, ready? Cheese!”. Those candid moments are the real heroes for any wedding photographer.
Wedding photography is about capturing the emotion of the day. It is about making those sweet moments that happen only once in a lifetime, live forever in an image. A photograph can hold so much raw feeling in one still frame, and that is what we strive to capture as wedding photographers.
Some of my favorite images from a wedding day are the candid, in-between moments. Those photos that have captured a stolen glance by the bride at the groom in the chaos of the day, or the kid in the wedding party who decides to break out in dance during the formal portraits, or the groom holding grandma’s hand as she greets him before he walks down the aisle and sees his bride. These photos of pure love and joy are what spark inspiration inside me and make me fall in love what I do over and over again, year after year.
No wedding is ever the same, either. Even if I’ve photographed a gazillion weddings at the same venue, the people make all the difference in the day. I love photographing the relationships between those people and how they show love with one another. While we ooh and awe over a beautiful portrait of a bride and groom, the really beautiful moments happen in the between parts of the day and those are what truly make up a wedding day.
As we start our 2019 wedding season, I feel myself getting so excited in anticipation for the brides and grooms we are photographing this year. It’s going to be an incredible year, and I cannot wait to see what little candid moments unfold in front of our cameras to help us tell a memorable story for each of them!
Mackinac Island was the idyllic location for Kristina and Joey’s summer wedding! A location special to most Michiganders, but especially to Kristina and Joey, who have spent countless summers vacationing on the island as a couple. They have described this beautiful vacation destination more than once as “magical”. The wedding day festivities took place at the famous Mission Point Resort, which has been described as “a storied lakeside retreat” with beautiful views of Lake Huron.
Prior to their wedding day, Kristina and Joey spent time relaxing on Mackinac Island with their closest friends and family, enjoying the summer weather and swimming in the lake behind the famous Pink Pony restaurant. We took sunset photos the night before the wedding outside the Mission Point Hotel, and I just loved the sleek and sophisticated white jumpsuit Kristina wore against the backdrop of the hotel!
The amazing wedding planning team, Ines & Marie, beautifully managed every aspect of the day for the couple. Kristina and Joey’s details were perfectly suited to their sophisticated style. Her dress was chic and timeless, which was so fitting for the simple elegance of the island and for taking pictures at the resort and the beautiful Grand Hotel. The groomsmen even managed to maintain their GQ style while pedaling on their bikes from the resort to the church!
The whole day was one big celebration with amazing people and the most stylish and fun couple! We love Mackinac Island weddings for its quintessential Michigan landscapes and magical feels!

Baby Emmett has arrived and his big brother and sister couldn’t be more ecstatic! We love photographing newborn sessions and his was no exception!
Mom and dad gave baby Emmett a bath and changed him into his Christmas pajamas, and then everyone cuddled their new little addition! Brother and sister even got some time in alone with him, showering Emmett with lots of love and attention. It was a great session, filled with lots of excitement and so much joy! Baby Emmett has already made this world a better place.
